High speed rail line by 2026

The Transport Secretary, Justine Greening, has approved the construction of a high speed rail line, the first phase of which she hopes will link London and Birmingham by 2026.

The project faces a mixed reaction.  While the majority of ministers supported the plan, several expressed reservations and have only given it their blessing after revisions were made.  Unsurprisingly there has been fierce opposition from a number of councils.  Even before the official announcement was made, Aylesbury Vale District Council began preparing an application for a judicial review.  Further details of any legal challenge will undoubtedly emerge during the next couple of months.

A collision seems unavoidable!
