Did you know cyclists have a higher casualty rate than pedestrians?

Over 8,000 pedestrians, including 1279 children, were killed on our roads between 1999 – 2010 according to figures gathered by the police and published on the BBC website last week.

Not surprisingly rush hour time was the most dangerous period. Buses presented a particular hazard for pedestrians. Nearly every death on Oxford Street, London between 1999 – 2010 involved a bus and a pedestrian.

But pedestrians have a lower casualty rate than cyclists. 1575 cyclists were killed in road traffic accidents.  Again the greatest number of accidents occurred during the rush hour.

Have you had an accident whilst cycling? Let us know what you think.
